<div class="video-wrapped" style="width: 500px; height: 281px; background-image: url('https://www.plattenrekorder.de/wp-content/plugins/video-embed-privacy/preview/A03ru6-bexQ.jpg')" data-embed-frame="<iframe hcb-fetch-image-from="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A03ru6-bexQ" title="CD Trailer - Kopeyia School Brass Band 2016" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/A03ru6-bexQ?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>" data-embed-play="Abspielen<div class="small">Das Video wird von Youtube eingebettet abespielt. The recording was made as part of a cross-cultural workshop of the project Music Works!. It was recorded live, outside and open air in the village Kopeyia in Ghana in a traditional setting. It features trombone Soloist Till Künkler (Germany/USA).

When performed in Ghana live and out in the open, pieces can last for more than one hour each and serve for dancing, clapping and singing. For this album the tracks were edited to album length. What you hear is the result of a cross-cultural music workshop of the project Music Works! with Till Künkler and Jo Junghanss as guest teachers. Following the project’s philosophy it focused on mutual learning through music. Till taught trombone technique and improvisation as well as learned the traditional songs and rhythms.

About the project: The Music Works! philosophy is based on the notion that music connects all human beings in peace, regardless of race or origin. This is why cross-cultural learning is at the core of it’s teaching concept. Music Works! was initiated in 2010 by German pianist Jo Junghanss at the Kopeyia Bloomfield Junior High School in the rural village of Kopeyia, Aflao region, Ghana. It enables boys and girls between the age of 10 to 18 to take part in music lessons, to learn how to play instruments and to make music together. The Kopeyia School Brass Band became the program’s flagship ensemble and features the project’s students.

About trombone soloist Till Künkler: Bridging diverse contemporary music styles and improvisation is an integral part of trombonist Till Künkler’s artistic work. A sought-after trombonist on the contemporary music scene, he is a steady member of ensembles like the Ensemble Garage, gRoBA Orchestra Cologne and In Situ Art Society or Escarioka (NYC). International tours with bands from New York and Cologne took him across Europe and the US. Till performed with the Ensemble Modern, Dave Taylor and the NY Trombone Consort, Roscoe Mitchell as well as the Free State Symphony Orchestra (South Africa). Till has worked with orchestras on major venues like Lincoln Center, Symphony space on Broadway, Cologne Philharmonic Hall and shared stage with Mark Gould and the MSM Brass ensemble. He performed as a Soloist at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall.
