“Introducing the Kopeyia Brass Band” proudly presents traditional Ewe rhythms and songs brought to you most lively by students age 10 to 18 of the Junior High School in Kopeyia. The rhythm section plays strictly according to the local tradition using up to ten different drums, bells and rattles (including Kagan, Kidi, Boba, Gangkogui, Axatse). Very specific and strictly followed patterns of the drumming section interweave to form a pulsating groove. Put together, the many polyrhythmic patterns of the many percussive voices are conducted by the traditional figurations of the master drum. The brass sections answers the “calls” by the lead trumpet.
